I LOVE this! I worked in journalism and PR and I had some kind of burnout bc it was all optimized content and I got really sick of it. I missed that joy writing used to give me. Writing, not ‘creating content’. And that’s why I started writing on Substack. And yes, I had many many questions about what and how I should write here, but I realized if I want to keep that joy in my writing there is only one path…
Thank you for this piece, I will save it and return to it in times of crisis. 😃
This made me so happy to read, Nina. I had a mini dance in front of my desk just now. That's exactly why I wrote this piece! I'm so glad Substack is gaining momentum among creatives who crave the same things we do: freedom to write, connect, create, beyond virality, algorithms, and building a brand. Looking forward to chatting via our writing on here! 🥰
Wow, Ely! Once again you blow me away! It's like you peeked inside my soul and put into words what I've been feeling for years. I think I need to re-read this a few times and let it all sink in. Thank you for sharing your beautiful ideas with the world!
I'm so glad it resonated, Jenny! Our conversations over the past couple of months gave me lots to think about and I'm just getting started on it all! <3
Ooooh I'm so glad this resonated, Emily! Wanna share some bits of your convo? Curious to hear more of your thoughts!
I did have an intuition you'd be on board with this collective break up I'm trying to initiate, because your publication has been one of those I enjoy *especially* because you share your unique pov and world. Glad to be on this journey alongside each other 🥳
We both agreed that long-form content, especially storytelling as opposed to “how to” type stuff, is our favourite method of communicating our message ❤️🦋 my friend is a business coach and she’s just started out on Substack and wants to write more!
And thank you, I try to share more personal story and my unique POV but I have found myself sometimes falling into the trap of using AI with a “how can I make this more valuable / universal for my reader” prompt! Reading this is my permission to stop doing that so THANK YOU 🥹🫶🏻
As someone who works in brand events and experiential marketing, so much of this resonated with me and how we find our unique brand voice and content among big tech brands. Thanks for writing, Ely!
Ooooh I would be very interested to learn about experiential marketing and your approach. Have you written about it? Please share 🤗 and yes, we have to find our own ways to navigate the current digital landscape, which is both daunting and exciting.
Thank you for reading and commenting. Welcome to the Lighthouse Library, Maya 🥰

Spot on. What if search algoritmhs were designed to surface genuine insight over mere keyword density, truly empowering unique voices?
Now that is the internet I want to live on!!
ADORE this SO much! Have shared with my friend who I was chatting with about this today! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🦋🦋🦋
